We Talk to Hannah Devane - Irish Evictee of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model
We were hoping she would make it farther along in the Next Top Model competition especially considering that she was - in our opinion - streets ahead of some of the other contestants, but instead, last Monday's episode of B&INTM showed the eviction of our very lovely, Dublin born, Hannah Devane from the Top Model House and indeed, the competition. With the judges citing her as 'nice' - but alluding to the fact that perhaps she was not cutting edge, we still feel there is a definite edginess to this young lady - indeed an edge that Elle herself must have seen when she originally scouted her out. Hannah has now received significant exposure from her stint on the hit UK TV show and she has seen her profile rise considerably here on Irish shores, which can only be a good thing... right? So now, she's home - she been doing a spot of modelling here and we caught up with her yesterday to find out a bit more about the whole B&INTM experience.
Q: Tell us about when Elle approached you in Brown Thomas. What was your initial reaction?
A: Its definately not every day that you meet Elle Mcpherson and as a huge fan I was in shock when she approached me! When Elle invited me to the auditions I was so delighted, there is no bigger compliment than such a huge supermodel seeing potential in you so I was chuffed :)
Q: Did you have to think much about it before accepting the invitation to audition?
A: No! It was a no brainer!
Q: Did you have any previous modelling experience before this?
A: I have been interested in modelling for a long time so I did some small jobs on the side of college but never got a big break so the show was that for me I think :)
Q: How did the whole process then begin to play out?
A: I went along to the Dublin auditions infront of the panel where I met the judges for the first time and answered their questions and walked for them. I was put through to the Semi final round of auditions in London so I set off and got through to the final 22 after which we did our first proper fashion shoot for Sekonda watches, I was paired with Imogen for this task, Elle spoke with each of us and picked the final 13 and then we moved into the house!
Q: What was the best part about being in the Top Model House?
A: Well the house itself was phenomenal! But the best part of getting to that stage of the competition was the shoots and challenges we got to do! Meeting Janice Dickinson and Alek Wek was just unbelievable, the opportunity to learn from such amazing industry experts was so exciting as an aspiring model.
Q: Who were you closest to in there?
A: I like to think I was friends with everyone, I was especially close to Stacey and Joanne as I had met them at the Dublin auditions and warmed to them from the beginning, Imogen Jayde and Holly were great fun too, We all keep in touch still so thats great and I cant wait for Britain and Irelands Next Top Model Live in October for a reunion :)
Q: What was your favourite photoshoot?
A: Probably the Nude shoot! people expected us all to be so nervous but I trusted the team and knew it would be done tastefully from watching previous series, the photographer was amazing and having Elle on set really put me at ease. It was a great shoot and I was very happy with the photo
Q: Do you feel like you learned much from the process?
A: I definately learned alot during my time on the show, it is an invaluable experience to learn from top people in the industry. My walk definately improved from our walking challenge with Janice Dickinson and it was a fantastic opportunity to do amazing shoots and I will definately apply wat I have learned in my future modelling.
Q: Did you have a favourite judge?
A: I had a soft spot for Elle because she scouted me and that is a compliment I will always remember and I will continue to make sure I fullfill the potential she recognised in me
Q: Is Grace really as sharp as she comes across on the show?
A: I think its important to see all the judges as having our best interests at heart, you must be able to take what they say constructivly. I think what people construe as sharp is just honesty and being straight in order to give us contructive criticism to help us learn and grow as models which is a huge part of the show.
Q: What now for Hannah Devane? Will you continue modelling?
A: I am now signed to Andrea Roche Modelling Agency in Dublin and will definately be persuing modelling internationally aswell, the show has just further sparked on my passion for modelling so I will keep going :)
