Sue Loughnane: The Follow Up Interview
BRITAINS NEXT TOP MODEL:
And so there were six…. This week the confident Kirsty was rather surprisingly sent home from the Britain’s Next Top Model Experience, leaving only Olivia, Charlotte , Tiffany, Alisha, Amelia and Joy left to fight for the coveted title and envious prizes. But for us here at home there was only one BNTM contestant whom we had hoped would be there till the end – our very own Susan Loughnane. Sue was surprisingly (and rather suspiciously if you ask us) removed from the show early on. We caught up with Sue this week to ask her what is her opinion on her untimely removal, what she really thought of the judges and also – who does she think should win the title of Britain’s Next Top Model.
Q: What do you feel was the real reasons behind your strange and untimely removal and did it have anything to do with you being Irish?
A: Watching the show every week I feel they eliminate girls for very obscure reasons and it seems more convenient than appropriate. Like I couldn't understand why Nikki went. She was one of my favourites to win. I feel like if it was your week to go, then you were going to go no matter how you preformed. For that reason I have no regrets and I liked how I left because it caused controversy and outrage, and I would much rather be the girl who was perhaps under rated, and has a lot of outraged fans than to be the girl who outstayed her welcome and gets abuse from the public. One girl in particular got a lot of stick from the public for being in it too long and I felt sorry for her, it wasn't her fault, the judges and producers kept her there for their own reasons. I don't think it had anything to do with being Irish, they loved that I was Irish, they really value their Irish viewers and I think thats one of the reasons I got into the show in the first place.
Q: Do you think your background and acting experience was perhaps also an issue for them?
A: No idea! Possibly.Q: Do you think you were treated unfairly?
A: Well i think they were cruel bastards the way they picked on me so obviously and maliciously. But it made it very obvious that no matter what I did I was leaving, so it made it easier for me to deal with because I didn't want to be there any more. But every girl was picked on at some stage and its the nature of the beast. I was just a little hurt by it, but it is what I signed up for, and I am over it now. On to bigger and better things. It has been a great platform for me though!
Q: Do you feel like you made friends there that you will carry on contacting etc?
A: Yep I am always in touch with a lot of the girls. I ring and message Amelia a lot and Tiffany and Joy and Amba and Nikki... they are all great girls. Oh and Olivia and Alisha too. I really have a place for all of them in my life because they are lovely people. Hopefully we will all stay in touch.
Q: How have things been for you since leaving the show?
A: Things have been really great! I have a fantastic acting agent here in London now and he is working very well for me. I've been meeting some great people since moving over and have some exciting projects coming up!
Q:Do you feel like you learned anything particularly from the experience?
A: Yes I have learnt a lot. Most of all I have learnt to get up off my arse and make things happen for myself cos no one else is going to do it for me. If you don't put yourself out there how is anyone going to know who you are? Also I am very lucky to have some wonderful friends and family. It is always good to have cheerleaders giving you the friendly, positive boost when you need it.
Q: What is your opinion on the judges?
A: They are all fascinating people, I feel honored to have worked with them, and hopefully our paths will cross again! Some were critical and mean with their remarks, but it makes good TV right?
Q: Who do you think will win the show?
A: Ah I dislike this question because I want them all to win and believe they all should because they are troupers, and worked their butts off! All of them!
