Our Interview with Miss Ireland - HOLLY CARPENTER

I have to admit to loving the name 'Holly Carpenter'; seeing it as a name that was perhaps even destined for great things. Yes, yes, yes it's a bit of a whimsical thing to say, but whether it's due to 'Holly' beng a name that I love anyway, or the fact that 'Carpenter'  in my mind at least, is synonymous with talent, fame and wholesomeness, I don't know, but hey, I like it ok? Anyway, enough about my eccentricities - let's talk about Holly Carpenter and who she really is. It's fair to say, there ain't nothing wholesome about these pictures (hot stuff) taken of Holly shortly after she nabbed the Miss Ireland title. But there is one thing for sure, the young lady who entered this pageant as Miss University is not afraid of the camera and let's face it, nor should she be. Holly goes on to represent Ireland in the Miss World Competition, which takes place in London on the 6th of November - and we're quietly confident here at StyleBible.ie that she may indeed bring home the coveted title. We caught up with Holly to find out how she feeling about the whole experience.

Q: What led you to entering the Miss Ireland Competition?
A:
I heard about the Miss University competition and my friends from NCAD (National College of Art and Design) encouraged me to do it, I was chosen to represent my college. It was held in Dandelion in April and when I won I was the 2nd finalist to be confirmed for the Miss Ireland final.

Q: Have you always been interested in modelling?
A: I have been interested in modelling since my early teens, I did it for a year when I was 15 after being chosen for the final of the Forde model search competition but I think I was too young to enjoy it!

Q: What has the reaction to your win been like amongst your neighbours and friends etc?
A:
Everyone has been so supportive towards me along the way and when I won I was inundated by phone calls, cards and people calling in to my house! It was so lovely that evryone was so proud of me.

Q: Already you are being thrust into the spotlight quite a bit - appearing in some media format nearly once a day since your win - has this been a scary or wonderful experience? Or a bit of both?
A: It's been wonderful! It's a bit scary when people recognize me, as I'm not yet used to it, but that's also really cool!

Q: The Miss World Competition 2011 Final is now fast approaching – tell us what you know about the process and where it’s taking part?
A: I'm flying over (to London) on the 19th of October and the final is on the 6th of November, as far as I no I'll be travelling around the UK with the other contestents doing meet and greets and recording some of the parts of the final that aren't live on the night like the bikini section.

Q: What is your schedule looking like?
A: I've beein training nearly everyday with my trainer Dave Mulqueen in The Edge in Clontarf and going to my local gym Slenderhealth in Raheny. It's hard to balance modelling work and Miss World preparations so as the final comes closer I'll be focusing mainly on getting myself prepared mentally and physically!

Q: How many changes of clothes will you need to bring with you for the final?
A
: I'm not sure, I'll be there for three weeks and will probably need a different dress for each day! I'll also need to bring gym gear, my official formal dress, my national costume and a tonne of heels!

Q: Have you thought about the year ahead of you if you go on to win the Miss World competition?
A: I have wondered what it would be like to win and thought about the amazing places I would get to see if I won but I won't let myself get ahead of myself, I need to focus on trying to get there first!

Q: Regadless of whether you win or not, do you think modelling as a career choice, is now something you now want to pursue full time, or have you other goals that you would like to fulfil?
A: Well I have taken the year off college this year to focus on Miss World so it will be my full time career this year, but I'm going to finish my degree in textiles after and my goal is to have my own clothing line or to design fabrics for top designers.

Q: Where would you love to see yourself in five years time?
A: In five years time I would like to be known as the happy, healthy and successful past Miss World who's starting her own long awaited clothing line! and maybe in love too!
