We take a Coffee Break with Fair City Actress 'Aoibheann McCaul'
So we take another fab coffee break today and this time it's with Dublin actress Aoibheann McCaul - currently best known for her role as the lovely Caoimhe Dillon on Fair City. Grab your coffee and get comfortable!
Q: Tea or Coffee?
A: Green Tea
Q: Describe yourself in three words….
A: Ambitious, honest, fun-loving
Q: How did you first get involved in acting?
A: In a Junior Infants school play - I was the lead sun!
Q: What is the best thing about your role as Caoimhe on Fair City?
A: She's very fiery and feisty so it's great fun to flip and snap at people, and tell them how it is - because they deserve it!
Q: You always look great on the show... is this your own style influence?
A: No, Helen the Costume designer does all the shopping based on the character description she is given. I started as a tomboy, and most of the clothes from men's sections... now Caoimhe has gone down the arty but more girly route.Q: Are you much like your character Caoimhe in real life? i.e. personality, style etc
A: I can't be as insecure as Caoimhe in my profession, but that comes from her living in her sister's shadow. I'd be very honest like Caoimhe - but not to the extent that I'd lash out at someone! I also am not a boy chaser by any stretch of the imagination, I wouldn't have that kind of confidence, and instead of chasing a guy I fancy I would usually squeal and hide or do something really dorky which I'd be mortified about later. So I suppose neither of us can play it cool? Other than boys I'd say I'm not as naive and much more streetwise. When it comes to style, we're very different - although I did buy some of the high waisted jeans she wears! The main difference would be heels! I love wearing heels and dressing more feminine.
Your personal style would best be described as... l'm always at a loss with this question - because I think I'm only finding my own style now. So it's changeable, svelte, chic, with attitude and heels!
Q: Who would you describe as a style icon?
A: Emma Manley - a young Irish designer. I'm always fascinated by her outfits and how she puts them together. She mixes vintage with contemporary and always has a very different and unique style. She's always sexy, classy and feminine. I'd love to have that kind of individual and distinctive style. It's inspiring
Q: How do you start a typical day?
A: Shower, blow-dry, porridge!
Q: What TV shows are on your ‘sky plus’ planner?
A: Raw, Love/Hate, The Truth about Travellers, Katie Piper: My beautiful friends, Jamie Oliver: American Food revolution Anything else I watch online...
Q: Top three TV Presenters …(from anywhere)
A: Ellen DeGeneres, Graham Norton, Gay Byrne.Q: Music on your ipod right now….
A: I have a small selection on my iPhone that I listen to which ranges from Bruce Springsteen, Christy Moore, Lykke Li, Musicals, Beyonce, Tinie Tempah, Adele and general chart music for the gym!
Q: What is the last book you read?
A: Dr. Suess - Oh the Places You'll Go!
Q: What is your favourite glossy mag?
A: I'm not loyal to glossy mags. I read articles and anything I'd like to know about online - and on sites like stylebible! I rarely buy them unless I'm getting a flight - and don't have enough baggage allowance for a book, so I pick in the airport based on which one has articles or interviews I'd be interested in. However, I just did an interview for the new magazine - Suburbia - which is delivered free to houses and about the Irish, so I could easily become loyal to that!
Q: What is your ultimate guilty pleasure?
A: Junk food I eat it so often that it couldn't possibly feel guilty or it would not be a very cheery life!
Q: If you could go on one date with anyone in the world right now….who would it be and why?
A: Ryan Gosling. I was fascinated by his performance in Blue Valentine for his charisma and naturalism. And he's alright looking - so if he's single I would love to go on a date with him and learn a lot!
Q: Top of your ultimate wish list right now is ….
A: A career making role in a prestigious film starring opposite Ryan Gosling- closely followed by the oscar.
Catch Aoibheann as 'Caoimhe' on Fair City, RTE One on Tuesdays 8pm, Wednesdays 7:30pm, Thursdays 8pm and Sunday's 8pm.
