Our Interview with TV Presenter ANNA DALY
The gorgeous and bubbly, Dublin born, Anna Daly, is of course, the familar face on TV3’s breakfast show, 'Ireland AM'. Having graduated with an International Marketing degree from the Marketing Institute of Ireland, Anna worked behind the scenes in TV3 for four years in sponsorship and marketing roles, quickly ascending up the ranks to become Marketing Manager for TV3. Anna was even nominated for Image Magazine's Young Business Woman of the Year in 2008! But finally Anna decided to spend some time in front of the cameras for a change! And we are thrilled that she did. Anna’s great look and wonderfully affable personality meant she was an instant hit with viewers! We have also noticed that Anna is a fan of all things fashionable and so we were looking forward to catching up with this busy lady and asking her a few questions!
Q: Anna, what was it that lured you from working behind the scenes to being in front of the camera?
A: I never planned a career in front of the camera. I studied marketing in college and really enjoyed it – the world of advertising and branding was particularly interesting. I landed a job in TV3 6 years ago, it was a sales / marketing role and after a couple of years I worked my way up to the Marketing Manager position, a job that I thoroughly enjoyed. However, once the suggestion was made that I screen test for a role potentially on air, it was hard to ignore. I didn’t jump in to it though. I initially turned it down and decided to do a night course in broadcasting in my own time, with my own money. It was the course that made me realise that I loved the world of broadcasting and I wanted to be a part of it! So, I went back and did a LONG series of screen tests until I was offered the reporter role on Ireland AM. Although I learned a lot in my marketing role, I wouldn’t change my job now for love nor money! Well, maybe money!!!
Q: Ireland AM is such a diverse show with everything from fashion to food. What are your favourite items to cover on the show?
A: Obviously meeting and interviewing well known faces is always fun, getting to know what they’re really like! I’ve found the likes of Westlife, Cecelia Ahern and Slash were my faves so far! In contrast to that I really enjoy doing informative features for the show like price comparisons between the north and the south or health or wellness items. It feels good when you have a huge response to an item and confirms that it was relevant to the viewer. Going from a serious or sad item to a silly or fun item is what makes Ireland AM such a success and the reason I love it. Q: It must be difficult to get up so incredibly early every morning though… what is your daily routine like?
A: It changes every day depending on whether I’m on live or reporting and pre recording it. Every day is different though, that what makes the job so much fun.
Q: Are there people in the media industry that you really look up to or would perceive almost as a mentor?
A: I think Colette Fitzpatrick is an excellent broadcaster and Colette has that mix of serious news reporter and light hearted fun broadcaster – depending on what the matter at hand requires. It’s not everyone that can do both and that’s why I feel Ireland AM is such great training. Miriam O’Callaghan is a real pro too, I always enjoy her programmes whether it’s serious news or relaxed chat.
Q: Do you feel like you have to maintain a certain public image and is this difficult at times?
A: Not really, I’m myself and don’t pretend to be anything else. Obviously it wouldn’t be in my interest to be snapped doing something really silly but it doesn’t stop me getting on with my life. Q: Is there any one person that you would really love to interview?
A: Loads! Chris Rock is in Dublin soon for a movie premier so I’m really looking forward to meeting him. I’d love to interview Jennifer Aniston too – I reckon we could be best pals. I sound like Hugh Grant’s sister in Notting Hill don’t I?!!! ‘She needs me’!!!
Q:Who would you look upon as a super stylish person in Ireland today?
A: Glenda Gilson has a lovely relaxed style that’s very individual. I also like Laura Whitmore’s sense of style and everything that model Aoife Coogan wears is just gorgeous.
Q: How would you describe your own sense of style?
A: Not sure, I’ve been asked this question tonnes of times and I’m honestly not sure. I don’t follow trends that I know won’t suit me. It’s relaxed most of the time and I wear a lot of jeans & heels!
Q: Where do you like to shop?
A: Where don’t I shop should be the question!!! I love Topshop (Tall especially), Tommy Hilfiger on Grafton St is a fab store, Fran & Jane, ONLY, Littlewoods Ireland.com, Oasis, Warehouse…..
Q: If you could have any one thing on your wish list, what would you covet most right now?
A: A Chanel handbag. I can’t justify the price but one day I will!!
