Launch of first Twitter Christmas Single for Charity #twitterxmassingle

#whoop #fun #charity #christmascheer #doitforthekiddies ......#iverunoutofhashtags...

ok not to over do the hashtagging gags - here was a twitter moment that actually might change lives. The first ever charity single recorded using Twitter was launched in Dublin at weekend. It started with a late night tweet on Saturday 19th November from @BrendaDrumm, from Newbridge Co Kildare. Brenda posed the question to Twitter: “Wouldn’t it be great to have a Twitter Xmas Single?” Tweet by tweet her idea became very real and last Sunday up to 140 people gathered in the Westin Hotel in Dublin to record the first ever charity Twitter Christmas single.

The singers, musicians, technicians, photographers, videographers, hair, make-up, tea makers, venue, accessories were all sourced through Twitter. All of the volunteers who came along to help were signed up on Twitter.

The charity to benefit from this initiative was also chosen through Twitter. There were dozens of great suggestions of very worthy charities that might benefit from the #twitterxmassingle but it was decided that the Neonatal special care unit in the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street, Dublin would be the beneficiary.

Winter Song is the song that has been recorded because it is a beautiful song that fits the season but also because the words are perfect and it is almost like they were written by someone who has watched their child being cared for in the neonatal unit.

Winter Song is now available through the usual download channels – the links are posted at the #twitterxmassingle.

Winter Song was written by Sarah Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson
