The stereotype fashion model of today may be extremely tall, a size 6 or under and in her teens but the demand for models over the age of 25 is growing. That’s according to Irish model agency Boss Derek Daniels whose model agency Assets has just announced a new Model Search competition 2011 entitled “Face of Woo Woo” for women aged 25 years or over. “It’s all down to the fact that older women feel more inclined to buy a product if they can identify with the model in the picture!” He said.
The online model competition www.faceofwoowoo.com launched this week and open to women from all 32 counties in Ireland, invites women 25 years and over to post a recent photo and enter online. Organised and sponsored by newly launched premier pre-mix cocktail brand ‘Woo Woo’ in association with Assets Model Agency, the winner will front a marketing campaign for the drinks brand. She will also feature on the Assets Model Agency books for a year and be photographed by top fashion photographer Lili Forberg. Other prizes include a short holiday in Ashford Castle, a model and grooming course with Udazzle.ie, a €350 hamper from the Make Up Store and designer dress by Irish designer Jennifer Rothwell. All those who enter will be entered into a free draw for a second holiday in Ashford Castle.
“Many high profile models in the past were phased out by their mid twenties and now, today, they can expect to have a longer lucrative and longer lasting career over the age of 25” says Chairman of the Judging Panel and Head of Asset Model Agency Derek Daniels. “Size zero catwalk models are no longer seen as appropriate and today clothes, cosmetics and other products who want to appeal to every day people tend to opt for a more natural healthy look” he said.
What the judges are looking for
The judges, according to Daniels, for the Face of Woo Woo will be looking for a beautiful natural face, sophisticated, chic, fun and oozing with confidence. He says that face models in their mid 20’s are always in demand for newspaper ads, TV commercials, PR and digital marketing campaigns as well as for promotional work. “Over the age of 25 there is still a variety of work. You only have to look at some of the world’s more famous models Claudia Schiffer has done a fashion shoot for clothing line from Chanel aimed at a slightly older market while Cindy Crawford endorses many products and appears on numerous TV commercials to see this trend.”
Judges
Judges include leading fashion photographer Lili Forberg, top Model Corina Grant, founder of online dress designer rental company Secretchic.ie Sarah Carberry, and leading fashion stylist Sarah Stephens of Theme One Productions. To enter all you have to do is to fill in the online application form and upload a recent image. Finalists will be featured on the site and the public will be able to vote for them. A final open model casting will take place before the finals on 21st July 2011 in Dublin. The competition is open only to those who are not already signed up to a model agency and who are interested in commercial work as opposed to a career on the catwalk says Derek Daniels, Chairman of the Judging Panel.
