The Eighties are Back! We get Top Tips from the Peter Mark Experts
Top Peter Mark stylists Mary Jo Cassidy and Helen Reavey fill us in on the new Autumn/Winter hair trends which certainly seem to include a return to the glitz, glam and statement trends of the eighties. The girls fill us in on what we can do to look fabulous for the winter ahead, and how to get those beautiful 'Madonna' curls that just screamed with sassiness and glamour.
“The 80’s were all about experimentation with cuts, colours and styling, I am really beginning to see this trend coming through in the salon”, says Helen Reavey. She continues, “More and more people are asking for bigger hair, plaits and volume. Curls are back but instead of the fuzzy perms of the eighties we are seeing sophisticated shape and colour”.
Helen worked with the Peter Mark team to create the fabulous blonde bombshell hair that is seen in Peter Mark salons nationwide (left). Helen explains how she achieved this look, “After washing and before drying, we infused the hair with Bumble & bumble Thickening Spray (€26.50) to give the hair volume”.
“Just before we use the ghd to create those fabulous curls, we added Spray Starch (€16) from Redken to the hair. The Spray Starch mimics the pattern of heat appliances which makes the look last longer”.
Helen continues, “Once the hair was curled to perfection we used our finger tips to break the curls up, this makes the curls look more natural. We then sprayed the hair with Elnett hairspray (€6.95) to keep the look in place. Lastly we used Vinyl Glam from Redken (€20.50) to create a healthy shine, and ‘volia’ we had beautiful Peter Mark curls!”Mary Jo agrees with Helen and believes the eighties are back with a bang. She explains, “Hair trends are mimicking the clothes we are seeing on the catwalk. Like the angular shoulder pads of Balmain, I am beginning to see more and more angular hair cuts”. “One look that is really popular is the Dannii Minogue angular bob, which is a fantastic cut as it can work for almost any face shape”, Mary Jo continues. “I think it looks particularly well if the hair is a dark chocolate brown. Dannii has a beautiful, iridescent dark shine to her hair and the best way to achieve that look is to come into the salon for a global colour, which is an all over colour. This will give your hair a boost of shine and condition. To make this shine last try Redken’s Glass Look serum (€28) which finishes the Dannii Bob perfectly”.
