Your Summer Look Perfected: Report by Chloe Ryan
This summer there is such a wide range of exciting new trends and fabulous fresh shapes out in the shops for you to choose from you won’t know where to begin! Whether you want to revamp your entire holiday wardrobe or prudently purchase one or two of those statement pieces to bring you bang up to date, it has never been easier. So with such an immense choice out there, the following are the two main trends to watch out for. You will have your summer look nailed in no time! Pictured: Gladiator sandals €55 from Schuh
Tribal influenced clothing has been huge this summer but be warned it is not for the faint hearted! This daring trend is different to what we traditionally may perceive of the tribal style: less African safari more Amazonian goddess. To get a visual of this trend at its most raw just look to the album cover and booklet of MGMT’s album: “Oracular Spectacular”. This aesthetic is incredibly refreshing and captivating and that is exactly what you will be when you’ve mastered this look!Pictured: Wild Aztec printed vest top from River Island €33.50
HOW TO: Khaki’s and neutral tones are replaced by electric prints and bold colours that really pop. Texture and movement are also key; leather, suede, fringing, feathers, beading and coloured faux snakeskin are all fabulous ways to bring this look to a whole other level. Whatever way you interpret this trend just be sure to have at least 3 wooden bangles dangling from you wrist and a pair of statement tribal shoes (Topshop and River Island are the hot spots for these tribalicious finds) et voila you’re a modern Aztec queen!
TIP: Hair should not be too groomed; tousled waves are more in keeping with this urban warrior look and if you dare one or two small plaits randomly in your hair would give a fantastic jungle effectAnother major trend to watch out for this summer, and is set to be just as big this autumn/winter is the harem pants. If feeling tight for cash then a pair of these is the way to go as they will carry you right through to next spring/summer. However they should be approached with extreme caution so as to not appear as an extra from an MC Hammer video! (pictured: sequinned harem pants from Penneys €15.00
HOW To: Firstly erase all images of the 80’s from your mind and now think sophisticated cool. The colour palette should not be loud but quite neutral such as whites, beiges, blacks, cool greys and touches of silver or gold to finish off this polished look tastefully. As these are the statement of your outfit the top should be understated and slim fitting so as to not appear swamped. Platform heels look brilliant with harem pants, and will also give you added height and confidence to pull them off. An eye catching necklace or pair of earrings (very important one or the other NOT both!) will bring the focus back up to you and finish this “not to be scared of” look off to perfection!
Finally, but very importantly, remember in order to sizzle in the sun this summer choose a trend that suits both your shape and personality!
