Some Tips for New Years Eve Fashion
Well, we’ve stuffed ourselves silly, drank rather too much, survived at least one big freeze and now we are fast approaching the time to say a final goodbye to the year 2009. It’s such a curious thing, the passing of time, with one year rolling into the next and nothing standing still. However, at least in the world of fashion and beauty, most things are cyclical and just keep on coming right back round again and again. In fact many things in fashion are simply ‘timeless’ and in that vein, a lot of this seasons New Years trends are very similar to what is usually championed at this time of year i.e. lots of sequins, satins and glitter.
Preparations are, no doubt, already in place for Thursday night - whether you are planning an evening of partying with friends or simply a night in with your other half – it’s still really important to feel and look the part. It’s quite an occasion, waving goodbye to the old, ringing in the new and so on. One of the more popular looks this season, much more so, in fact, than previous seasons, is the entirely sequinned dress. It’s certainly a statement and is a great idea for hitting the clubs. This dress (left) is from the Wallis winter collection and is €115.
Also, disco style fringing is a big look this season and the 1920’s style fringed dress is back with a bang – a great and indeed eye-catching piece for shimmying about on the dance-floor! Check out this great fringed dress from Warehouse available now on the ASOS website (www.asos.com) for €80.11.
Statement shoulders certainly made an impression on the fashion circuit this season – originally being re-introduced to the runway by Balmain, they fast became a huge trend on the high street. The current style of statement shoulder is more pointy and futuristic than large and Dynasty and getting it right, especially in keeping with your own shoulder size, is important. Military jackets were also a huge hit this season and teamed with the aforementioned statement shoulders, you simply couldn’t go wrong.
(pictured left: Brocade little black dress from Heatons €25) But it you really want to ensure you get it right this New Years Eve without perhaps going to a huge amount of trouble, or without wanting to look over the top, then simply slipping on a black tube dress and accessorising with some statement jewellery, an oversized bow, either on your hair or around your waist and a pair of glitter adorned sparkly shoes or otherwise killer heels, will see you turn heads.
Check out these amazing pink leopard print heels from Jimmy Choo available right now on www.net-a-porter.com in their end of season sale - these babies were a whopping €470 but are now priced at €329. These would be an amazing statement with that little black dress!
Alternatively, for a slightly more casual affair, perhaps a pair of good jeans, the same sparkly heels and teamed with a sequined camisole or an embellished top, will see you just right. Don’t forget to glam up your make up too. Glitter eye liner and shimmering lip gloss are a must.
New Year’s Eve comes but once a year and with lots of New Years Resolutions to consider, champers to be cracked open and family and friends to be kissed, making the effort to ring in 2010 in style, is simply paramount.
With all that covered, there really is nothing left to say except thank you for reading all year round and a very happy 2010 to you all.
