Parka's Back!

(Pic: Early 90's, Oasis made parka wearing very cool) I have surprised myself this past couple of weeks... Why? Because I've found myself reaching out (again) to the whole grungy 90's, parka wearing trend this Autumn. They say, that if you have seen a trend the first time around, you probably shouldn't be indulging in it too enthusiastically the second time around - i.e. you're probably too old for it! But of course that isn't a 'rule of thumb' - it's just one of those many observations that get bandied about by 'fashion folk', when actually, most trends get rehashed over and over again in ones lifetime. However, this one has  come around very quickly, considering I'm only thirty and I thought I'd said goodbye to my long shirts, Doc Martin, Parka wearing days.

Ah Yes I did it all, the 90's grunge thing.....Only because it was basically the only way of expressing yourself as a teenager in Ireland at the time, because fashion was kind of at a standstill in the 90's - and although we did envy the kids of Beverly Hills 90210 (kind of) and Dawsons Creek (not so much) we really didnt have any inkling or opportunities to emulate their styles (thankfully) and so it was grunge. Stealing your brothers shirts, customizing your Doc's and trekking to Slane to rock out to REM and Oasis, feeling as though you were simply 'too cool for school', basically sums up that period for me. But now, I see that the dreaded 'Gallagher' Parka is back...and what has surprised me is that, instead of shuddering, which I feared I would, I actually really want to get out and buy one!

We pinpointed this gorgeous rather feminine version (pictured) to give you an idea of what's out there. This gorgeous Junya Watanabe Khaki Parka (with fab knitted and capped sleeves, cinched in waistline and A-line tail) is availabe right now from Havanna Boutique. Yes it is a rather pricey Parka (as Parkas go)at €1,440 -  but it' is definitely worthy of our 'wish list' though, right? But of course, our pockets may not stretch quite that fair so for some less pricey Parka's see below:
