Marie Shields went along to the Christmas Closet Clear Out
StyleBible Blogger,Marie Shields, went along to the recent Christmas Closet-Clear Out @ ALT!
A very slick experience last weekend, was the fashion event my good friend Lauren O’Reilly and I decided to hit. It was in Andrews Lane Theatre, on Saturday the 10th of December and was none other than the ‘Christmas Closet Clear-Out’.
Basically, everyone could book a clothes rail / half rail, for a nominal fee, and sell their wares for the day. My friend and I gathered our best bits (the ones we could bear to part with of course) and booked a half-rail in order to make a few bob! Lauren, is amongst the scary twenty-something masses who are jet setting to Oz soon and so was keen to make some mulah while simultaneously freeing herself of some un-necessaries. The event was set up very well, bumper to bumper with gorgeous rails manned by gorgeous young ladies and gents, with some good tunes and a chic yet cool atmosphere - not to mention some very creepworthy style stalking.
Some glamorous faces were in attendance, I could not take my envious eyes off the flawless Roz Purcell, nor Georgia Salpa. Wow. Many people were in awe of the striking jewellery range by Merle O'Grady, who can count Florence Welch as a patron. The collection was fierce with spikes, unusual materials and unique pendants.
The event was organized by the excellent Corina Gaffey (Stellar) and promoted by the lovely Anthony Remedy.
Items I intended to part with, were a gorgeous floor length cami I bought in Topshop Unique Belfast, but was too hipster for my current taste, which I managed to sell to a little Chloe Sevigney-esque beaut.(see her pic below) Lauren painstakingly sold her real fur jacket which she purchased in a vintage shop in Paris, but alas she won’t be needing fur in the land down undaa. All in all we didn’t sell an overwhelming amount, as the influx of customers wasn’t mammoth, but I hope this event continues and I would definitely attend again, and tell my friends too. It was a credit to all involved and I am positive it will grow.
If you Plan on taking a Rail - my advice would be:
Choose a stand out piece and put it out front to grab attention.
Be prepared to barter, but keep price high to start with.
Network, you meet some great Irish fashion names.
Browse, you could pick up some unique gems.
Go together with friends for a rail and take it in shifts (looong day)
Watch your clothes, generally a genuine crowd but be wary.
Bring good quality hangers and plenty of change for a float.
Have fun, don’t get stressed by lack of sales / change / hangers and enjoy the day.
