Fall Trends 2010 - Report by Naomi Clarke

Report by Naomi Clarke: I hate to admit it, and if I’m honest I am still in semi-denial, but it is a fact, that our 'summer' is coming to an end. However, on the upside, the dreaded sales are also coming to an end (whoop) and Autumn Winter trends are taking over, with lots of new yummy trends to get my teeth into (extended whooooop) Every cloud has a silver lining eh? Working in a boutique, I’m like a kid in a candy store with new stock arriving every day.  I thought I’d give you Stylebible readers a quick rundown on what we’ll be wearing over the coming months. Sure, we’ve got to deal with long dark evenings, what seem like even darker mornings, cold and yucky rain and the dreaded umbrella’s blowing inside out dilemma, but hey nothing a new a delicious new pair of booties won’t help us overcome. Ahhhh yes, ..shoes; the answer to all my woes.

Anywhoo folks here’s a quick trend overview. I’ve picked my favourite ten...

1.    Camel, camel, camel. Apparently its all about camel coats this season, the trench coat is officially ‘out’ according to Vogue.com. This camel mania is all part of the clean and crisp minimalist trend, what’s great is camel goes with practically everything, especially yum paired with black, navy, white and grey. Chloe was all about camel this season, as was Caroline Herrara, Erdem and Gucci.

2.    Hell for leather baby: Yep you heard me correctly; leather is mega mega news for AW10!! Shorts, trousers ( eeeeck), biker jackets and skirts are all gonna be uber hot! As seen at Mathew Williamson, John Paul Gautier and Hermes

3.    Leopard print lovliness, see my last blog post on releasing your animal within!! Hold tight to those key accessories from previous seasons – bags, belts and more

4.    The 1950’s lady. Probably the trend I am most excited about, goodbye 80’s power dressing and big shoulders and hello ladylike chic with tiny waists, full hips and bountiful bosoms taking centre stage. Louis Vuitton and Prada led the fashion pack on this one, the former paying homage to the era of the martini hour and perfect coiffures, while Prada was a touch darker and at points even subversive. Def watch this space for more on 50’s fabulous ness – I’m a tad obsessed!!! This trend is a celebration of womanliness, all curves and Mad Men glamour. Prom dresses and nipped-in waists abound and, if necklines aren't buttoned up to the chin, ample busts are on show in balconette corsetry. Ladylike accessories complete the look - think up-to-the-elbow gloves and framed handbags

5.    Fur and shearling, yep fur is back with a vengeance folks. Think cute mittens, hats, trimmed ankle boots and gilets. As for shearling, I’m yet to be converted but according to those in the know (vogue- aka the bible!!) it’s one of the biggest trends for AW1O.Watch this space... Aviator themes reigned on the catwalks - think cropped shapes with furry, oversized collars. According to Instyle, Burberry had the most wait list-worthy examples in shades of khaki and bittersweet chocolate, with utilitarian straps hanging free.

6.    The caped crusader, Practicality (they're easy, cosy and comfy) meets theatricality (see Givenchy's sexy caped crusaders) in this season's favourite cover-up. Hmmm I’m a little torn on this one, chic – yes deffo, but hard to pull off without looking a tad granny ish...Although  Jaeger do have a delicious crochet style one!

7.    Gothic Glam, oh yes and its back... Again!! Think Twilight inspired, vampire esque glam complete with black lace and shocking red lips. Givenchy, Antonio Berardi and Alexander Wang and even DKNY were all about this look..

8.    Charlie’s Angel/ 1970’s, who hasn’t seen the iconic Chloe image? Its fricking everywhere. This trend is all about the original Charlie’s Angels look, think Farah Facett, complete with big hair, high waisted flairs and chiffon blouses. Lots of suede and leather and stick to shades of toffee, caramel and rust to give the look justice.

9.    Baroque babe, one part rock chick, one part courtesan, and a shed load of luxury!!! This look is all about rich fabrics – velvet is big news – You should have seen my surprise as I excitedly tore open new season Antonio Berardi stock last week in work, velvet a go-go! What’s more, it’s all about embellishment, feathers are big news, as is brocade and quirky appliqués. Yep the ‘less is more’ ideology really goes out the window with this look. To avoid looking too blingy, work embellishment detail into your shoes or try layering sequins with matte pieces. Deffo a look I will be homing  in on soon...

10.    Military , back once again are military style jackets and well cut, tailored pieces. In fact, Dolce & Gabbana even closed their show with an army of models in matching fitted jackets.  Think military precision, complete with leather army style boots, skinny jeans or tailored cigarette leg trousers and gold buttoned military styled jackets.

Nice round out for the forthcoming season. Lovig the Chloe collection. I now look after PR at Portobello Institute so I've posted this link up on our blog.

Great to see a past graduate doing well
