Debenhams Expert On Autumn/Winter Trends
Debenhams are really working it this Autumn/Winter - they have their finger on the pulse and they're not letting go!! Have a look at their take on the latest fashion trends below.
First off, the Military look just does not seem to want to go away. This is definitely good news though, as we can rework some of our clothes from last season to bring them into Autumn/Winter! Recession fashion, I like it! Stick to shades of dark olive, navy or grey and black and you will be on the right track to completing the ultra stylish military gothic. Key to this trend is the small details that make a huge difference, e.g. metal dome buttons, epaulettes and a sharp collar with finish the look. To bring your military look up to catwalk standards, contrast with feminine floral dresses and the must have fabric of the season - velvet. The Red Herring Autumn/Winter collection has a strong gothic lace theme, taking inspiration from Burberry, Oscar De La Renta and Valentino. Check out 1 - 3 below.

This seasons ultimate must have is the Cape. The cape has made an appearance on most cat walks for Autumn/Winter, with the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Missoni and Jaeger London showcasing them in their A/W collections - they really are a key piece for a fashion forward wardrobe. Check out number 10 below, the Red Herring Military Cape, €85.
Lace and velvet play a huge part in most key trends this season but are worked differently in each look. This historical look consists of highly decorative patterns and textures to give a truly opulent feel. Ornate embellishment and jewellery inspired prints can help you get historical look styled with velvet, lace and corsetry inspired shapes. You can experiment with jewel-like colours in metallic fabrics to give it a quirky twist. Valentino and D&G both had this Historical theme in their Autumn shows. Star by Julien Macdonald takes inspiration from D&G and this season there is a strong romantic and historical theme in his collection. Check out 4 - 6 above.

The key trend for Autumn Winter is the coat. This year there really is something to suit every taste. Ultra sexy leather or laid back aviator to the classic crombie, but there is no mistaking that the ultimate statement piece this season is sherling - J by Jasper Conran definitely has a finger on the coat couture pulse as does Red Herring. Check out 7 - 9 above.
7. J by Jasper Conran - Sherling Jacket, €465
8. J by Jasper Conran - Camel Crombie, €294
9. Red Herring - Fur Trim Coat, €144
The over-riding trend of Autumn/Winter 2010 has to be minimalism, which gives an expensive and well groomed look. It's a return to understated key pieces in luxurious fabrics to give an overall stylish and polished look. Suede, leather, faux fur, cashmere mixes, velvets and fluffy angora knits blend together to give a plethora of textures especially synonymous with the Rocha. John Rocha range. The best way to achieve this is to use a very restricted palette of muted tones and don’t give in to the temptation to over accessorise - the beauty lies in the simplicity. This season we see J by Jasper Conran rework classic items from the men’s wardrobe, the camel crombie coat (8 above) or white shirt that can be teamed up with the new wide leg tailored trouser to update a work wardrobe.
