Vintage Lovers Flock to Ennis, Co. Clare
The economic climate and a newfound almost fresh approach to fashion, has succeeded in turning many more fashion hounds towards the vintage fashion rails. Getting inspiration from stores like topshop, who champion vintage ranges and who encourage mixing and matching for that alltime urban ‘London’ look, more and more young people, who would have previously been vintage virgins, are now realisng the benefits to shopping vintage. Of course many of us have always known these benefits but a surge in demand for vintage stores and for retro inspired clothing lines is certainly rising and this is a great thing as it promotes creativity in dressing and a yearning to be unique.
Ennis, in Co. Clare, has now also joined the vintage rally with the addition of a new store called Babylon. Everything about the store screams ‘exclusivity’ except of course, for the price tages which are incredibly reasonable. Located amongst the beautiful brick buildings of Bank Place, directly across from the Post Office, Babylon is nestled in a snug basement area, and one gets a distinct ‘Sex and the City’ sensation when walking down the stone steps to the stores front door. Greeted by the warmth of red brick walls and a coal fire, followed by the grandeur of a large, dressing-room mirror which is surrounded by lots of gorgeous pieces to try on, it’s like walking into every girls ‘dream room’.
As well as stocking unique and distintice pieces of vintage and retro clothing which have been sourced in the many fabulous markets of London city, Babylon also stock a current, vintage-inspired range from young, well known Irish designer Chupi (who designs ranges for Topshop) a label that is much coveted by fashionistas everywhere.
It’s the kind of place where you are likely to find anything, from a pair of ‘nearly new’ Carvela shoes to funky Star Girl Tee Shirts.
