Autumn Jewellery Trends at ARGOS

Jewellery Trends for AW11 at Argos!
Money’s too tight to mention at the moment – and we have all been feeling the pinch. But it’s an ill wind that blows no good and although the economy might be seriously sick, it seems to have blown some seriously creative life into the jewellery industry.

Gold and silver are more and more expensive so jewellery designers have had to adapt – Goodbye, for now, it seems, to the age of luxurious understatement. This season sees necklaces, earrings and watches becoming more imaginative, using a greater variety of (cheaper) materials and somewhat sticking its tongue out to the countrys dire financial predictions with fun, irreverent styling.

So perhaps it’s less a case of the cloud having a silver lining and more a case of the cloud having its lining decked out in chic bronze, bright plastic and bold feathers. Akong’s A/W cloud even had a rainbow of bobbles…

So anyway, as the leaves start to fall, take a look at some of the gorgeous styles you could be wearing:

Colour:
Neon colours on plastic, rubber and string are everywhere – whether they’re giving a fun twist to the bulky ‘gangsta’ chains of yesteryear or worn bravely bright on gorgeous ladies watches. Colourful jewellery will give your outfits a cheeky, youthful touch – like Lego for the wrist. And it’s generally fantastically and unapologetically inexpensive!

An urban pop of colour here and there will contrast nicely with the muted oranges and dusky tones you’ll be wearing this winter, keeping you smiling through ‘til Spring.

Architectural:

The influence of the architecturally-inspired filigree necklaces seen on the AW and SS catwalks is evident everywhere, so invest in strong, curvaceous shapes and chunky symmetrical designs. They look beautifully striking layered over jumpers or tucked bowtie-style under the collar of a blouse.

Earrings here are still dangly but now they’re also intricate – replacing floaty tassels are structured mixed materials and fun cut-out details (check out funky interpretations of the trend in Argos’s Jewellery pages).

Tribal:

There are a few styles that have come to fall under the umbrella-term ‘tribal’: Navajo, Aztec and African-inspired pieces have endured through the summer, evolving from summery fringes into bold cardigans and zigzag prints.

Jewellery in this style mixes gold, silver and bronze metals with semi-precious stones to create unforgettable statement pieces – extreme enough to make or break an outfit. Look for necklaces made of chains plaited with fabric and embellished with tear-drop and disc-shaped charms; find earrings with stylised feather details.

Metal bracelets in the Navajo style look fantastically folky when layered on the wrist with beaded cuffs and small friendship plaits.
