Outdoors exerciser Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova hates the gym.

The Russian tennis player admits she has to work out to stay in shape but only likes exercising outdoors because she hates being stuck outside.

She said: "Personally, I'm not a huge fan of it. Working out is a huge part of my life.

"Working out is a huge part of my life. I love doing things outdoors like taking a run on the beach or in a park - doing things that are active and outside so you don't feel like you're doing so much."

The 23-year-old athlete also admits she likes to eat, despite having to maintain a toned physique.

She revealed to website Hollywoodlife.com: "I love food! I love trying different types of restaurants and different types of cuisine."

Maria - who is a former world number one tennis player - also says she struggles with being a role model as she wants children to strive to be "better" than her.

She said: "It's still tough for me to imagine myself being a role model. When I think that the people who look up to me are little girls and boys, I think they should want to be better than who I am."
