Is camel the new black?

If there is one trend I just can't get enough of this season.. It's gotta be camel.. Its official camel IS the new black… (according to the bible... aka Vogue!!) It’s like music to my ears. I have always been an avid camel, nude, beige, earthy toned kinda gal. But with camel being one of this seasons must have or should I say ‘lust have’ investments; I’m beside myself with excitement! I already have bits and pieces of camel in my wardrobe but I think I feel a shopping splurge coming on….. Well like I said Vogue did declare camel the new black... dare I explain myself anymore?!

What I love about camel is how versatile it is, it’s yummy paired with corals, creams, oranges, pinks, greys and even navy! Plus its super flattering for all skin tones and hair colours… there’s a shade to suit you from blonde to caramel, to burnt toffee,  something ‘black’ can’t claim as an attribute.. So what will I be investing in? Well, I have fallen for a delightfully delicious camel cape... Which will be uber chic with a classic LBD, or a tight fitting pencil skirt and blouse for the office and equally divine worn over skinny jeans and boots for a more casual look. What’s more capes are totally the look du jour, so knocking two trends in one… now that’s fashion initiative for you!!

By its very nature camel gives an outfit a very sophisticated, classic, glamorous and a more luxurious aire to any outfit. But if you want to stay clear from that stereotypical classic look, it’s easy to introduce camel into your wardrobe. A few months back, I picked myself up a wide legged high waisted pair of camel pants and I just adore them… they are super elegant worn with a cream high neck pussey bow sheer blouse, but are equally cool worn with a plain white singlet and tonnes of gold accessories!

The camel buzz really hit over drive with that now infamous Chloé Winter campaign, and such was the lust-inducing power of Raquel Zimmermann in that camel-on-camel ensemble that celebs were soon to follow.. And so as is the nature of this world that is fashion the high street were uber quick to catch on too! And hooray for that!! Camel has a timeless, classic edge, so when we are thinking in terms of investment pieces you can’t go  too far wrong with a well cut camel coat, amp it up or simply pair it with a black leather belt and you can be sure it will be something that will remain pride of place in your wardrobe for years to come.

Earlier this year, I was telling my ever fashionable mum about the re introduction  of camel, she excitedly ran to her old wardrobe and pulled out a divine, knee length camel swing coat she maintains she bought in the 90’s.. She has since got it remodelled and with my input has paired it with a black belt, an oversized biscuit coloured scarf and her leather boots and I gotta say it looks great!

With the likes of Gucci, Michael Kors and MaxMara to the usually vibrant colour king Erdem and Hermes all championing camel this season, we can be sure that this is a trend to be reckoned with.
