Blimey these trews are HOT news!
My god, I just love this time of year when the mags are bursting with Spring Summer news on what’s in/ what’s out/ what’s hot and what’s not! It’s almost overwhelming, and being broke and saving and therefore “trying” not to shop, it’s actually quite a painful experience not to indulge in all these delicious new looks! But one trend I am totally digging is palazzo pants...
Now let me tell you something about me, I don’t really wear trousers much - I’m an essentially a 1950’s housewife – skirts and dresses are my thing! I find it really hard to get trousers that suit my shape. Harem pants... case in point! So I had accepted, other than my skinny jeans for casual wear, my wardrobe has been sans dressy pants... Until now that is.... I picked myself up a pair of camel, high waisted, wide legged pants, with a turn up in River Island and I flipping adore them!!!! I wore them with a tight cream vest, a cropped lace jacket and mega high nude heels and was pretty happy with my new trouser wearing self!
The catwalks were flushed with this trend, from Mark Jacobs and Carolina Herrera to Maxmara and Jill Sander. Wide legs are def the look du jour. While I’m on it, trousers overall make a huge comeback for 2011 and as we edge more towards summer, we can expect ankle skimmers, chino style trousers to become even more popular, both with boat shoes/ pumps for a casual look and with stillets for a glammed up do!
It can be tough to pull off wide leg trousers without looking a tad dowdy though and even a bit old, so be super careful what you pair them with...make sure to wear a top tucked in, something tight fitting to balance the volume of the bottom is a good look. I like the idea of pairing them with a really casual vest top and some chunky jewellery just to keep the look relevant. Or they can also look cool worn with a bowed blouse (which are everywhere right now) ala Olivia Palermo, but make sure you stick on a skinny belt to break up the look. You can dial up the 70’s theme with a big platform heel and the very brave could even rock out a big floppy hat!

- Also loving the influx of new trends in the mags...so hard though when your broke! Just wrote my blog on this seasons shorts in contrast to your trew one...love the idea of your camel pair with a white sloughy vest tucked in ,and bangles, now if only I could find a sponsor, ha!
