X-Factor: Sack the Stylist.

I love the X-factor. Despite the fact that my love is slated by a lot of my friends, (haters) I agree that what it stands for is negative, it does nothing for the music industry except sicken truly talented undiscovered musicians… And is clearly very staged with strategic PR tactics and quite possibly fixed, but damn is it entertaining!

One of my main reasons for tuning in over the years, was undoubtedly the fashion fix. Case Study: Diana Vickers, 2008. Awhh, not only did I simply adore her voice, her rendition of Man in the Mirror was gorgeous, but the clothes…amazing. The Temperley and Oasis dresses, teamed with boho styling and bejeweled with classy rather than tacky sequins and crystals made me drool every week. She had that Sienna Miller meets Debbie Harry vibe, it was all a big part of many women’s’ X-Factor experience.

Then the infamous Cheryl and Danni outfit wars, their different takes on high fashion styling, whilst ALWAYS trying to outdo each other made for fantastic viewing. The style stakes were always a joy to watch, last year, 2010, was incredible. My hero, Grace Woodward headed the fashion team, and it was easily the most couture X-Factor ever. Rebecca Fergusons ladylike glamour, contrasted by Katie Waissel’s rock chic looks, hot pants and embellished band tee’s, Belle Amies street fashion urban influences. It was excellent, wardrobe envy.

This year however, I feel, Woodward an co being sacked as the stylists was a dead loss. I can’t look forward to any of the contestants ensembles this ear, albeit if we’re lucky Little Mix might have a stand out item or two, and as far as the judges, I’m not digging Tulisa’s chav chic, and Kelly takes wonderful risks, but to me,  gets it wrong more often than not. Sad times. Janet Delvins ‘demure, I’m so innocent and insecure’ outfits, featuring awful maxi skirts, waistcoats and gawdy tights…look as though she was brutally attacked by a charity shop. Its dismal, it won’t put me off watching, never, but this year’s show is definitely missing the Fashion Factor.

 Love Marie xx
