Dress to Impress!

Who hasn’t flicked through the pages of a new celeb/fashion magazine and awed over the red caret ready beauties on the first few pages?! Admired the hair and make-up of these starlets and envied their sheer flawless-ness? But, most of all longed to own a dress as wonderfully elegant and luxurious as the designer lovely they have on? Well, I know I have! Oh, how magnificent it would be to have an actual Ellie Saab be-jewelled, full length, one shoulder beauty hanging in you’re own humble wardrobe, a quirky Vivienne Westwood number at the ready for you’re next night out... You would be the belle of the ball and fairest of them all-undoubtedly! Though, it’s unimaginable for us mere mortals really, but we can dream-or, we can Covet! I have been aware of dress rental for a while now, but as a student, still can’t even stretch to the rental price, ha, but recently read an article on the topic and realised there is a business in Dublin rents designer dresses at a reasonable rate! Located in Powerscourt Townhouse, Covet-The Borrowers Boudoir is the one stop shop for those of you who would love a designer guna for an event, but could by no means afford to splurge on one! Owned and run by Suzanne Hourican, the designers stocked include- Cavalli, Diane Von Furstenburg, Chanel and Galliano. I think it is an absolutely brilliant idea, for people who love the status that comes hand in hand with wearing and being photographed in a designer label and want to look the part for a special occasion!

While I would highly recommend the above, especially for those who have the funds to allow for it, and who long to have an authentic design draped over them, even just for one night. I do however think glamour on a budget could be just as satisfying-and even rewarding, if one is savvy about it. Some of my most complimented outfits have been bought on a shoe-string budget as a result of much rummaging, and knowing this really makes the compliment all the sweeter. My friend at college has received no end of admiration for a white flowing belted mini-dress that she bought in one of the cheaper boutiques. Sometimes it is this idea of expensive garment=automatically gorgeous that make some people splurge on an item that might not be that nice on/worth the dough! I find if you browse through the magazines/shopping sites and get an idea of a look you want to go for, search the cheaper shops for similar styles, and you might even create a better and more unique look than the expensive one you craved. Still, there’s no harm in looking...even if you can’t touch! Speaking off drooling over catwalk fashion, I cannot WAIT for Xpose Live this year, to get some summer style tips from the amazing fashion shows, as well as discounts, freebies and make up tips. It should be one very exciting style event!
