Flares are Back (baby!) But for how long?

Flares are coming back and there’s not a thing you can do about it.

Above is a pic of Kate Moss and I believe it was taken in 2006. That was back when we were slap bang in the middle of our skinny trousers phase. Yep we tucked them into boots and wore them with ballet shoes. Kate was doing the same of course, but she did mix it up. We did not.

It took three years but here we are… Flares-o-rama. I don’t know if it was all down to Kate but they’re definitely making their third appearance in 40 years. (Some would say the never went away, you know. I’m looking at you, Small-town-stoner)

you could fit a penguin in there. that'd be weird though.

Now, one street-style photo does not a trend make. However, the wide leg is firmly back on our radar, championed chiefly by Chloe this A/W

70s much?

I don’t know how I feel about the flares thing. To be honest I wore them for YEARS after they went out of fashion the second time. In college, I even used to wear a mini-skirt over them. I can’t deny it. People remember! I was a bit slow to the skinny trend. Now it’s all I wear. I’m really not feeling the grá for the wide leg thing. It reminds me of when I was in my scruffy studenty phase. Eeep.

Also, I don’t really have any SHOES to go with them. And I have a fair wack of shoes and boots. Are they telling me I have to go and buy MORE now that they need to match the new silhouette? Ah jaysus….

One think I’ll say about flares though, they are flattering. Us that are wide of hip, suddenly become nice and balanced out when we wear a pair.

biker suddenly turns into 70s rock chic

The real question though is… will the flares trend last as long this time around? The were pretty massive in the 90s for a good seven years. (On real people, I mean. Not the catwalk obvz)

As long as Rumi Neely is wearing them, you know you’re ok

try and wear them better than her, i dares ya!
