In the PINK with Bobbi Brown, Essence, YSL, Clinique & Lancome.....

Theres something about pink lippy. I think its so feminine and fresh, but its hard to find the perfect pink. Have I found it yet? Nearly. It takes a while though to find one that lasts, one that moisturises and one with the PERFECT shade of pink, not too girly, 5 year old pink, not too 1980's pink. Tis a tough task, but I'm getting closer to finding it, one lippy at a time (my GOD I need a life). Pinks are my daily go-to's. Those and nudes. Actually, I'm ridiculous, I have a makeup bag, then a SEPARATE makeup bag for lippies. Mad woman. I've said it before, you dont have to pay big bucks for a good lipstick but I prefer to (says she who has insufficient funds!). You cant beat the luxury brands and Im not afraid to spend on them. Although I will dabble with cheap-tastic finds, I just dont find they do the job as well as your average Bobbi Brown or Clinique, or maybe Im one of those girls that will easily part with her cash for pretty packaging - yep thats me! I've been trying out a certain 5 pinky lippies lately in particular.....

1. Bobbi Brown - Rich Lip Colour in Bikini Pink

This is really gorgeous and a keeper in my makeup bag. The colour is indeed rich, completely living up to its claims and its lovely for day-time wear. The lipstick science behind it is that it has a colourless base so the pigments are truer......not sure I understand that bit of science guff, but who cares, Im delira with the results. Its super creamy, slides effortlessly onto the lips and gives a glossy, moisturised finish that lasts. Love it! €22.50

2. Essence - shade 53 All About Cupcake

This offering is like a stalker friend of the Bobbi Brown lippy above. It wants to be like it and look like it, but it has some serious lessons to learn in the lasting power and general loveliness department. Now, this lipstick is good, it is, no disrespect to the Essence, but it just doesn't do it for me. It wreaks of a sort of sweet, bubblegum scent that you can taste and it fades from the lips before you've even put the cap back on. Plus, I HATE the packaging. But listen, at around €2.50 or so, its grand for an ol' flash in the handbag

3. YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Fuchsia Innocent

Lads, this lippy seriously POPS off your lips, its mad. The photos above do it no justice at all. Above it looks tame but in reality its a mad thing. Not for me. I just wouldn't know what to wear it with. Maybe to an 80s fancy dress? It has a beautiful texture, is seriously pigmented and of course, the packaging it spectacular, but its just so damn hard to pull off. On me anyway. I think this lippy would be gorgeous on a sallow skinned brunette. Another thing about the lippy is that if you have any dry patches at all, it sticks to them like glue, plus, this one is better off applied with a brush, otherwise you're left with too much on the lips. At €31 this baby is tough on the purse, but there are plenty of other pinks in the line, so Im sure you could find one to suit. And as I mentioned above, its a pretty good lippy, just not the shade for me. What do you think of it?

4. Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry

As usual, Clinique doesn't fail to impress! I had to laugh when I got this though - its seriously reminiscent of those Crayola crayons I had as a kid....the ones that I drew all over our freshly painted walls with...what can I say, I was a creative toddler. This gem goes on like a balm and feels like a balm but looks like a lipstick. I dont think this shade is pink pink, more berry, but I love it. It lasts on the lips well and gives a beautiful wet-look finish. Its packed with butters and oils and even anti-oxidants. It has buildable coverage too, so you can go as dramatic as you want. Above I applied about 3 coats. Definitely another makeup staple for me and at €19 its a good price for a lippy that will last ages. They have some lovely nudes in the range too that are next on my list!

5. Lancome L'Absolu Nu No. 303

This lovely bit of stuff from the new L'Absolu Nu range isn't on counters until early April, but I was sent it to sample and trust me, its a dream lippy. Pure luxury. Its not a mad pink, its just right with undercurrents of berry. It slides on the lips leaving behind a glossy, moisturised, long lasting finish. The texture of it makes me want to sit in a corner and lash it over my lips all day, its GORGEOUS! Im not sure its a day time lippy but definitely a night-timer. LOVE, love, love the packaging - it has a little magnetic action at the end of the lipstick to fix the cap in place effortlessly. Off course, it aint hard to secure a cap on a lippy but HEY, I like it! It has me sold!!
